Udon Thani had a “bike week” back in 2006 that was discussed on the UdonMap forum under the thread Udon thani Bike (week). Oddly enough, I cannot seem to locate any other source material on these events but various forums.
The subject came up again in early 2009 on the Thai Visa Forum as Udon Bike Week – Who’s Going? (Elsewhere on that same forum, a week-long ride which included Udon Thani was proposed for March of that year in the thread Ssr Epic Ride I Motorbike trip from Bangkok to North and Isaan.)
Note that the Teak Door forum even gave the 2009 a mention in late 2008: Udon Bike Week/ Hotels. UdonMap‘s sister forum KhonKaenMap, had this short thread: Some sad news from Udon Bike week.
The Pattaya-Live! Forum also talked about the early 2009 event, referring to it as “The 3rd Udon Thani Bike Week(end).” The thread was titled Udon Thani Bike Event (in case anyone’s interested). If that is true, then does it mean that the 2006 event had no relationship? Or was 2006 the inauguration, but either 2007 or 2008 failed to have an event materialize?
The GT-Rider forum gave big recognition to the 2009 event in its thread Udon Thani Bike Week.
A video showcasing a little of the formal festivities relating to the 2009 Bike Week was posted on YouTube with this description:
Big Bob, Greg & Richard from the Loei Gentlemen’s Motorcycle Club, ride to Udon Thani to meet biker friends and to enjoy a large well organized party.
A few minutes of video cannot create the experience of “being there” or show the thousands of Motorcycles and Bikers, but I hope these few clips might entice others to come see for themselves!
There are many more Bike Weeks scheduled for this year here in Thailand.
Was there an Udon Thani Bike Week in 2010…or 2011? I don’t know. A late 2009 GT-Riders forum thread proposed some 2010 Bike Weeks that included a mention of Udon Thani.
