Cheapflights has a quote that looks quite good in comparison to anything I would expect to find from the airport nearest to me. However, would it be available if anyone attempted to book it?
Other flight engines include FareCompare, ebookers, Skyscanner (the Canadian version of the site is imposed for me), eDreams (via Thai Airways), Rumbo, KAYAK, Search Cheap Flights, Jetcost, and many others — there are such a diversity of sites from which to initiate a search.
I have read that Mondays and Tuesdays are the busiest days of the week for travel websites, and the costs are highest. They tend to drop on Wednesday, and late Wednesday night is supposed to be the best time to check the cost. Late Saturday night, as well. As for cheapest times of the day to book a departure, the recommendation I read is to choose around midday — most people seem to want to either leave early, or else after ‘business hours.’ Also, booking after the end of the first week of a month is supposed to be choice. And ideally, book a half-year or more in advance. Stay well ahead of the crowd who are planning their imminent vacations.
When is the best time of the week to choose to depart? Typically, avoid Monday mornings and Friday afternoons — check out departures on Tuesdays or Wednesdays. Friday and Sunday nights are supposed to be especially bad times to be planning a departure or arrival back home where costs are concerned; when it comes to weekends, choicest time to leave is after midday Saturday, and book the return for roughly the same time of day on Monday.
Avoid booking for public holidays or points in the year when students have their vacations. However, note that some major holidays can be the best time to be flying because most people would not choose to — for instance, plan a trip for Christmas Day as opposed to Christmas Eve or Boxing Day (December 26).
These are simply suggestions, however; exceptions will always arise.
