Wikitravel: There are now two bus stations in the City (as at Nov 2011). The usual one in the city centre near Central Plaza, and now another on the outskirts of town on the road in from Loei towards NongKhai. Tuk Tuk into town some B80 from here.
Buses from Bangkok (Morchit), an 8-hour journey, arrive at the BKS station in the city.

Sawadee.com offers a page of North East (Isan) Bus Timetables, but I didn’t find anything specific about Udon Thani.
UdonMap has this to say about the Bangkok/Udon Thani bus: The Bus is another alternative and is more regular that the train, buses depart Bangkok’s northern bus terminal almost every hour but beware of the holiday seasons when you may find yourself unable to get a seat. Bus prices range from 250bt to 450bt.
