Udon Thani Rajabhat University (UDRU) is known as one of the fast growing Thai universities with more than 22,000 students, 478 teaching staff members and 310 supporting staff members. UDRU is a university where international and local knowledge meet to empower the community and the region. From its origin as a teacher education institute, UDRU maintains its specialization in teaching and learning fields as it continues to successfully expand its specialties in fields other than education.
UDRU hosts several cooperation and collaboration projects with the community, both public and private sectors. With international cooperation, there are several programs at the bi-lateral and multi-lateral level on many fields.
UDRU has participated in the Public Sector Management Quality Award (PMQA) since the program was initiated in 2005 and has been ranked among top ten higher education institutes of Thailand for four years: PMQA program 1st placed in 2005, 6th in 2006, 9th in 2007, and 3rd in 2008.
UDRU is located in the heart of the Udon Thani City, only 50 kms from Nong Khai and Laos PDR, and one hour from Bangkok by plane. It is a modern city where most visitors find it is convenient to fit in, but still seasoned by the local charms. Udon Thani offers a unique glimpse of pre-historic civilizations including those of Ban Chiang, and the biological diversity that makes up Udon Thani are within the reach.
On a related note, I’ve come across the website of the Rajabhat University Research Team before, and still get a wee kick out of it, for I just cannot quite figure out what the website’s purpose is. Perhaps I am denser than even I know. At any rate, Arthur Eugene Sears has a deep association with the University.
Incidentally, I have no idea if James Sears is biologically related to him, or not.
Steve Graham also had a deep association with the University. However, I read some months back that he had an unpleasant parting with it. I suppose it’s always possible the rift has since mended. Anyway, Steve wrote an article lauding the University’s English programme that was published back in 2009 in the UdonMap forum: Learning English at Udon Thani Rajabhat University.
You may have noticed that the University Research Team‘s website is “Powered by Microsoft Office Live” (very soon to be Microsoft Office 365). Well, Microsoft Academic Search has the University listed, citing nine of its alumni and their scientific publications.
As the University’s name and Wikipedia indicate, it is part of the Rajabhat University system; it is also listed in Wikipedia’s List of universities and colleges in Thailand, where you can see that it was founded in 1923 (though under a different name: Teacher Training School in Agriculture Udon Thani).
At least two Community Facebook Pages have been set up by someone using the University’s name (here and here), though little has been done with the two accounts.
A more prestigious inclusion is on the website of the University Directory worldwide.
And perhaps here I will end yet one more post about the Udon Thani Rajabhat University.
