The ThaiVisa forum has a four-part thread by a member going by the Username dmax who wrote of his travails in getting his personal Isaan bungalow constructed in Khon Kaen province. If you’re curious about the threads, here are the links:

This 2008 blog entry discussed the home that a friend of the blogger’s was having built in Ubon Ratchathani.
At quite the opposite extreme of the two example above, I saw a 7,000,000 Baht home complex that included a “staff bungalow” consisting “of two bedrooms, a kitchen area, a bathroom and living room. This is a completely separate unit and could be used for staff quarters or as a guest house.”
I’d provide the link. but once the home is sold, I’m sure the link would be disabled. Suffice to say, it was advertised on Isaan Properties and located in the Korat area.
If you’re more keen on just staying in one for a time, then a sort of rustic resort called Suan Loong Daeng Farm offers visitors — aside from a main guesthouse — individual bungalows.

We are located 60 kilometers before Mukdahan on HWY 2042. If you are coming from Khon Kaen take the hwy 2042.
By Air there are 2 flights a day into Khon Kaen. We can pick up from Khon Kaen Airport.

Phu Kradung National Park is located on a high plateau about seventy kilometers from Loei on the Khon Kaen – Loei Highway. Lush and fertile, it is the home of many kinds of wildlife. With an elevation of 1,325 meters, the Park is ideally suited for cold climate plants and trees. Bungalows and tents are provided by the National Park Section, Forestry Department. Prior reservation shouId be made through tel. 5790529, 5794842 to ensure over night stays.
Transportation to the Phu Kradung National Park
One can take a train from Bangkok Railway Station to Khon Kaen. From there take a Khon Kaen – Loei bus to the market in front of the Amphoe Phu Kradung Administrative Office. Next, take a minibus to the office of the Phu Kradung National Park, 5 kilometers away. This is the starting point of the trekking journey to the peak of the mountain. From there, a 5 kilometers long footpath leads to “Lang Pae”. Then, after a 4-kilometer walk along a pastural area you will arrive at the bungalows on Phu Kradung. For your convenience, the office provides you with porters to carry your luggages to the mountaintop.

There are other types of bungalows available, it seems. The following excerpt is from a Canadian on a bicycle tour:
Accommodations in Thailand on a budget. I discovered Boom Boom motels. Usually 1-5 kilometers out of a town of any size they will have small bungalows or a motel like string. You can rent these for two hours or for a night. I imagine the two hour rate is for people who just need a nap. I have stayed in lots of these and generally they are very clean, and good value, they usually serve simple dishes and sell various beverages. $6-12 CDN for the overnite rate. Dollar for dollar way better value than cheap hotels in the centre. The usually don’t have English on their signs but they always have a “24 hr” on their signs, and they look like little cottages. Sometimes they are called ‘resorts’. For this trip I had a notepad with Thai phrases my friend wrote for me.” Where are the cheap bungalows”, “Can we set up our tent here and sleep” etc. That came in handy at the end of the day when your too exhausted for charades.
I came across a reference elsewhere to this entry for Khon Kaen — there was nothing else about the place, though:
