Isaan Travel Guide and Holiday Villa listing
Thailand’s largest territory is known as Isaan and borders with Laos and Cambodia. This North-Eastern region is less visited than other areas of the country but there’s still plenty to see. In fact, Isaan boasts some of the most scenic areas in the kingdom with incredible features like the mountains of Loei province and the mighty Mekong River region. These, together with the Khmer ruins in Phimai and Buriram, plus a total lack of tourist traps make Isaan an appealing destination for those in search of peace and an experience of Thailand devoid of the influence of mass tourism.
The culture of Isaan is linked heavily with Laos. The Mekong river not only defines its border but also its origins. Village life abounds, but the region still has several large cities including Nakhonratchasima, Khon Khaen and Ubon Ratchasima. Although still relatively poor, isaan people are generally open and warm. These qualities, coupled with fabulously tasty, if spicy cuisine, beautiful riverside towns and a vibrant traditional culture make Isaan a truly special location.
Ironically, although most foreigners never visit Isaan, it is in the service industries that its people have contributed most to foreign perceptions of Thailand. When visitors take away pleasant memories of Thai people and their customs, it is often the hotel staff, taxi drivers and street vendors that create this impression. Many of these people come from Isaan.

A villa holiday in Isaan offer total seclusion and peace in stunning natural surroundings, away from the tourist crowds. Isaan villas offer the same luxuries of modern living as those in more sophisticated locations, with the added bonus of truly traditional culture and unspoilt natural beauty.
Isaan is accessible from Bangkok by air and also offers some interesting road trips. Local transport is cheap and easy in the towns and cities, but it is advisable to rent a car if you choose to stay in a more remote location.
