There are a good number of guesthouses throughout Isaan — certainly more than are likely to be uncovered using search engines like Google. Some just don’t have a Web presence.
One that does is Thai House.
Have a look around the website — it even has a forum. The guesthouse is run by an Australian and his Thai wife. Since they will do pick ups from the Khon Kaen Airport, it is logical that they must be within a reasonable distance of it. You can play with a Google map at another website here.
The Khao Yai Isaan Guesthouse is about 20 kilometers from the Khao Yai National Park — and a little more specifically, in Nakhon Ratchasima‘s Pak Chong District (or Amphoe).

I am unimpressed with the website of the Isaan Guesthouse. Really, it offers almost nothing, apart from this nice description:
Isaan Guesthouse is the ideal place for you to spend a few days – or longer – and relax in the peaceful atmosphere of a village in the heart of the Isaan province of Thailand, far from any touristic hustle and bustle.
This is a simple village house, originally built in wood and on stilts in the traditional Isaan style, which we have renovated to make two double bedrooms with all modern comfort.
We do not have the ambition of being a standard hotel or guesthouse like you will find on the touristic circuit, but what we lack in professionalism, we more than compensate with our spontaneity and friendliness. We will make you feel like you are family members!
We will serve you delicious Isaan food any time you like, and of course we will also offer you a few western options, especially for the so-important breakfast.
You will experience the gentle rythm of Isaan and enjoy the wonderful smiles of its people. And you will have the possibility to discover fascinating sites within short drives from our village.
The Photo Album is empty as I write this edit on May 13, 2012; and the Blog listed for the website hasn’t any posts yet. And nothing says where the place is — the village is not even named. Merely stating that it is “a village in the heart of the Isaan province of Thailand” is absolutely no help — what Isaan province, please? There are something like 20 provinces in the Isaan Region.
There is another Isaan Guesthouse — the Isaan Guesthouse and Cultural Tours. I wonder if it’s the same place? It’s location is certainly vague enough — only someone intimately familiar with Isaan is going to understand where being “near Ban Bo at 74 Moo 1, Tambon Tanya, Thailand” is supposed to be. What province??? Roi-Et is mentioned deep down on the website.
With this level of clarity in their advertising, I doubt they are being overrun with guests.
The Sansuk Guest House is located in Nakhon Phanom Province, and more specifically “in the village of Baan Nathontung.”
They will pick up guests at the Nakhon Phanom City airport or bus station. The website is slow to load, so maneuvering through it requires some patience; but go ahead and check it out. They’ve got some video on learning some Thai language phrases.
And that’s a very short look at a few of the guesthouses around Isaan. I never intended it to be comprehensive.
