Today I came across an advertisement for an entire apartment building being offered for sale with the following description:
Urgent apartment building for sale !!! in a great location. Situated directly between Udonthani center and Central plaza; a 5 minute drive from both. All 3 floors (25 rooms) are rented out, with a waiting list of new tenants. Current room rates, aircon room total 7 rooms are 3,200 baht / month and fan room total 18 rooms are 2,200 baht / month. Rooms include phone, internet, fan or aircon, bathroom, water heater, bed, mattress, dressing table, wardrobe, balcony, motorbike parking space and car parking space. Successful businesses of this nature do not come on the market too often. Current owners reluctantly selling to raise cash for another business venture. The very attractive price for full ownership with chanote.

Evidently the ad was place on August 30, 2010, and would be given a lifespan of 78 days, with the option that the advertiser could kill it at any time he or she chose before that expiration period. Consequently, I’ll not post a link that’s only going to expire. I’ll just say that I came across it in Baht&Sold.

Note that in both instances, I have deliberately not included any interior photos — I’m not trying to sell the places, only illustrate the two structures.
Not many of us planning or even hoping to one day be spending our lives full-time in Udon Thani are likely able to afford something like this — I certainly cannot.
The wisdom is that anyone planning on living in Udon Thani — or any other part of Thailand — should first familiarize himself (or herself) with what life there would be like by first renting in the chosen area. A highly recommended location in Udon Thani City are the AEK Udon Apartments. You can check out their ad on Udonmap, or go directly to their own Website. I have never even seen the building, let alone experienced what staying there might be like; however, I have a couple of good acquaintances who have done so, and both have independently recommended it to me for any long-term stay I might make in the city.
The Udonmap has a thread on the AEK Udon Apartments that was begun at the end of 2008 and has continued on into the current year (2010).
I don’t know anything about the Udon Star Apartment, beyond what is advertised here and here. This may be their actual Website.
The Sunshine Hotel is advertised on Udonmap as being an “apartment style hotel.”
A place called the Heritage Apartments got a very good review in this blog post.
The Englishman’s Retreat has just this Summer begun offering Studio Apartments.

This 4. floor apartment is situated in a quiet and secure area close to the Sct. Mary school in Udon Thani (UdonThani).
It contains 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a large living room and a small patio behind the kitchen.
The 4. floor is a large roof terrace with excellent views over Udon Thani (UdonThani).
I must say that I am unsure just what is being offered by the ad’s description. If the fourth floor is actually the rooftop…then what floor are those small balconies on? They don’t look like they’re higher than a second floor, and there doesn’t seem to be another floor above them, does there?
