Have you heard of geohashing?
Geohashing is a method for finding an effectively random location nearby and visiting it: a Spontaneous Adventure Generator. Every day, the algorithm generates a new set of coordinates for each 1°×1° latitude/longitude zone (known as a graticule) in the world. The coordinates can be anywhere — in the forest, in a city, on a mountain, or even in the middle of a lake! Everyone in a given region gets the same set of coordinates relative to their graticule.
As such, these coordinates can be used as destinations for adventures, à la Geocaching, or for local meetups. After the fun, please document your expedition! I suppose for locals with time on their hands and enough sense of adventure, playing this game might be fun. And since one never knows what the following or any future day’s location in that grid will be, a date could be selected and the adventure begun when it arrived.
Another ‘Wiki’ is eTripTips. The entry there for Udon Thani is very familiar to me, for it is shared on several other sites I’ve come across in the past.
The Wikimedia category for Udon Thani Province is remarkably sparse — it contains but five items as of this post — four photos, and the Thailand outline map I posted above.
If you have any familiarity with Udon Thani Province whatsoever, you should have at some point heard of potash mining — quite controversial there. This Wiki-style article has a good report on Udon Thani and the ITD (Italian-Thai Development Company) Potash Mine. A little more here.
Vesākha day monastery visit – Udon Thani

A visit we paid to the the Forest Monastery of Barn Tard, about 30 mins drive from Udon Thani city centre for Vesākha day on the 28th May 2010, which is probably the biggest single festival day in the Buddhist calendar.

This monastery is quite famous in Thailand, and especially so the Venerable Ajahn Maha Bua, who resides there (and whom you can see towards the end of the video). He even has his own website and TV station!

The whole event, which lasted about four hours, involved giving “merit” gifts, along with communal prayer and recitals.
