Udon-Nightlife.com is a relatively new site that I hope can survive and become a primary sources for this type of information — a true nightlife guide.
Wikitravel of all places has this to offer about the scene:
Udon Thani has a wide variety of Karaoke bars, go-go bars, nightclubs and English and American styled pubs. The area around the Charoen Shopping Complex (locally called Komplek) houses the majority of these.
* Dong Dea Moon. With the sea of motorbikes out the front, this a favourite with locals and has regular appearances by some big-name Thai folk acts.
* Harmony Bar. Run by a Thai/Dutch female singer. A bar which sometimes has live music entertainment, and also serves food.
* Irish Clock. Authentic Irish pub in the middle of Udon. Two pool tables. Lodging also available.
* Steve’s Bar. Run by an English ex-pat and his Thai wife, serving Western and Thai food as well as a selection of International beers and spirits. Just around the corner,
* Tong’s Bar. Gay-friendly bar, draws Thais and foreigners, with cheesy Thai pop blaring from the speakers.
Beyond this, bars tend to open and close by the month, if not by the week. The club scene is fairly uni-dimensional with a generic crowd going to the 2 or 3 clubs in town. The best are housed in the basements of the Charoen Grand and Napalai hotels.

Restaurants and Night Clubs
There are an abundant number of restaurants located on all the main streets throughout the city as well as around Ring Road. Most restaurants have about half of their tables out doors under the stars and also have a separate seating area under a roofed area. Lake Front dining is available around Nong Prajak Park and Nong Lek and Nong Sim. A favorite restaurant is Chom Chan Beer Garden located on the West side of town on Ring Road. Top performing bands from Bangkok play here about one night each month. There are also a number of Disco’s within the city for those who wish to party late into the night.
Thai and Western food is available, however some restaurants serve only Thai food. Locally brewed beer is available at very reasonable prices (Chang, Leo, Singa) typically cost only 70 to 90 Baht for a 640 ml bottle. Typical price for a couple ordering salad or soup, rice, two entrees plus several drinks would be 600 to 800 Baht.
Personally, I loved enjoying the night scene in Udon Thani — I hope to do so again before I get too damned much older!
