It is scarcely a treasure trove of such information, but the UdonMap forum does have an Udon Thani News section. There is also an Udon Thani News section elsewhere on the UdonMap site.
Interestingly on a related note, someone (Charles Law?) appears to want to start up some competition for UdonMap (as described here).
There is a website called Udon Thani News, but practically nothing has been done with it. The landing page currently has a video that appears to be about soccer, while the remainder of the page consists of Thai text that might be copied from Wikipedia. If you click on the EN (English) option for the site, you do not even see that much.
Another site that could have proven very useful has fallen into a time freeze. Nothing on it has been updated since the year 2000, apparently. I first became aware of this site when it was linked to by an introductions site that was designed to get interested Udon Thani ladies presented to Western men for matrimonial purposes. The introductions site arranged contact information to Western men for a small fee. It was this specific site that became responsible for me making my first trip to Thailand in January, 2003. I had browsed the site periodically since possibly as far back as 2001, but did not decide to get serious and pay up to contact anyone until Spring or early Summer of 2002. That introductions site has long since died off, and at one point may even have become something of a porn site. At any rate, as I said before going off on this tangent, one of the links within the introductions site was to this site that has not had an update since 2000. That was not too large an issue for me back in 2002, but clearly it is now obsolete. If the site owner is paying to keep it hosted, I can only wonder why. After all, the same chap — Thanin Wong-asa, an Udon Thani resident — has a current presence elsewhere on the web, such as this photography site. His personal website is here — he even has a Thai blog there. I just think that he might have had a winner on his hands with his original site if it had been maintained — look at the success of UdonMap within that time-frame.
Of course, the big news in all of Thailand as I make this July 4 (2011) update is the election win of Lingluck Shinawatra, Thaksin’s sister. Thus, a site called Headline Grabber only has articles related to that election win in its Udon Thani section. Perhaps its offerings are otherwise normally more varied?
That is really all I have to comment at this point in time on this subject. I am sure the day will come when there will be comprehensive coverage of local Udon Thani events, but that day is not here yet.
