Then there is the Amporn — the blogger who posted these photos speculates that the Amporn was built in the late 60′s or early 70′s. Click on either photo to go to his site:
What was once the lobby is now a gutted shell, save for the staircase, rising up three stories.
The same blogger also profiled the Vista Theater that dominates the city scape from its corner perch across from the open space of Tung Sri Meuang Park. He estimated its construction as being the “late 50′s early 60′s:”
The Vista was the brain child of a local medical doctor, Dr. Sukum, who from what I gathered had a sort of celebrity status in the Udon of yesteryear. In its hay day, the Vista was an all out entertainment complex, complete with a bowling alley on the second floor.
The trash strewn lobby still contains a sign with movie show times. Notice that the last show of the day was at 24:00 -- a mid-night special.
Another blogger writes of his late December, 2007, visit to Udon Thani and offers these photos of the Major Cineplex:

I mentioned this in a previous post some while back concerning the Major Cineplex, which of course now has its own website. A person can apply online to become a “Major Cineplex member,” which would entitled the successful applicant (I would think) to some sort of benefits. But to apply, it is required that the Thai person doing so must supply his or her Citizen ID number! Can you imagine submitting your Social Security (U.S.) or Social Insurance Number (Canada) just to join some movie theatre membership? There is even a field for a Passport number, if the Thai national wishes to supply it — evidently this isn’t mandatory.
