Now, at this point I think I need to say that I do not believe that there is an actual mall in Udon Thani that calls itself the “Udon Thani Mall.” That would be far too non-descriptive. In January, 2010, the Bangkok Post headlined an article as Outlet Mall plans B500m Udon Thani mall; and an UdonMap forum member copied the article and inaugurated what became a three-page thread (Outlet Mall) as other forum members commented throughout the year while the mall was developed.
Wikipedia lists Udon Thani’s malls as follows:
- Downtown Plaza, Udon Thani
- Premium Outlet, Udon Thani
- UD Town, Udon Thani
- UD Bazar, Udon Thani
- Centerpoint, Udon Thani
Wikipedia has an entry on CentralPlaza Udon Thani. Formerly the Charoensri Complex, this is the only mall in Udon Thani that I ever got around to visiting.
The Downtown Plaza was heralded in the UdonMap forum on October 16, 2009, as Coming soon! – Downtown Plaza Udon Thani.
The Premium Outlet was the mall being discussed in the Bangkok Post article I had earlier referred to — more about it can be viewed on the Website of the Outlet Mall Thailand.
UD Town has a modest page hosted by UdonMap: UD Town Open Air Shopping Mall.
UD Bazar probably should be spelled as UD Bazaar. I can’t find much about it, though. UdonMap gives it a mention in a September 14, 2009, post titled UD Town & Bazaar Udon Thani (Sponsor). And Lonely Planet says little more in its brief piece titled UD Bazar Night Markets.
As for Center Point, not too much is devoted to it. UdonMap has a short thread titled CENTER POINT.
UdonMap also has a very recent thread (October, 2011) titled Udon Thani – Projects & Construction that identifies what is currently progressing around town.
