I never found my Udon Thani wife on a ‘personals’ site, but it was a profile on one such site that got me interested in the possibility of Thai women, and which ultimately compelled me to make that first visit to the country in early 2003. I was to meet the woman who is now my wife on that first trip.
If I was a single man now, I would quite probably make use of one of those sites again. There are certainly all manner of them — both free, and those with paid subscriptions for membership.
Just now accessing a site called Date In Asia, and selecting Udon Thani profiles with photos, the prospects are 10 profiles to a page, with the total number of pages run beyond 20. That’s a lot of lasses just in the Udon Thani region on this one site alone! And if you enter ‘udonthani’ — well, I stopped advancing through the pages when they topped 60 in number.
An example of a site far less prolific would be Love Awake with just a half-dozen profiles of Udon Thani girls, or Lava Place with less than that.
Falling anywhere in between are sites like Matchmaker.
But I’m not intending to market these types of sites, so I won’t list any others, or move any further into a discussion of them.
“Udon Thani girls” can mean more than just dating sites. There is a far seedier element. Earlier this year, the Bangkok Post published an article titled Lao girls lured into child-sex trade in Udon: The conditions driving young Lao girls into prostitution are no different than those behind the thriving child sex trade in Thailand some 20 years ago. Anyone should find this article to be — at very least — interesting.
The second part in the series was titled Too young to choose: Trying to eradicate the world’s oldest profession may be a hopeless cause, but it is clear that Thailand cannot allow children to be part of the system of prostitution, especially when they are trafficked. You can read it here.
I want to close off this post with a more uplifting look at Udon Thani girls, although it relates to orphans. It is a blog titled Udon Thani Orphanage. Although a Christian group is behind the blog, and the work being done, it is certainly worth a look.
