The good thing about Wikipedia is how rich it is in related links anytime a visitor references an entry, such as Isan. Someone could spend the better part of a day if he or she took the bother to follow up on every one of the given references.
Anyone seeking information about the Isaan region would probably be interested in other kindred articles such as Isan language and Lao language. And of course, there is the History of Isan to follow up on.
You may have noted that I use the spelling Isaan, whereas Wikipedia uses Isan. I’m unsure why they chose the shorter version, for it is less common, I believe. And other versions of Wikipedia, such as the German, use Isaan. (The Dutch version uses Isaan, too.)
Note that Wikitravel also has an entry for Isaan, so it would be prudent for the researcher to pay a visit to that travel “encyclopedia” as well.
Someone has created a Facebook account called Isaan – Wikipedia.
In doing a March 10, 2012, edit to this post, I happened upon a fairly interesting blog post that was published in January by someone who contributes Thailand-related entries to Wikipedia: A sad day as a Wikipedia author.
