Those Isaan ladies!

I wonder how many men have come to the Isaan region and fallen in love with it primarily because of the Isaan woman or women he has become entranced by?

Note this short article entitled Khon Kaen-the Gateway to Isaan: I visited Khon Kaen for the first time in 2007 to visit a lady that I met online. I immediately fell in love with the lady and also with the city of Khon Kaen.

I am sure it is a commonplace. I am convinced that I love the region as much as I do because of the bonds I developed so very quickly and deeply with a close small group of ladies who took upon themselves the task of safeguarding this friendless visitor to their country.

As is claimed in this introduction to learning the Isaan Dialect, where the author is discussing the prevalence and influence that isaan people have in the rest of Thailand, “You may even be lucky enough to have an Isaan lady as your girlfriend or wife.”

There is a book called Lady of Isan for which I came across a short review in StickmanWeekly.com: What I liked: The fact that it is non-fiction i.e. the story is real. There is not a lot of non-fiction in print on this subject. The author is obviously a very clever man who makes a lot of interesting observations about life in Isaan, and life married to a lady from the lower classes of Thailand’s poorest region.

Please note that as well, the reviewer strongly disliked the various proofing errors that reportedly flourished throughout the book. But that seemed the only major negative, so it just might be a worthy read.

This blog entry from 2009 has a better-than-most depiction of the Isaan women who find it necessary to leave the region to seek the means to a better life in places like Bangkok and Phuket — I found it a more balanced treatment than some others I found while researching information for my own blog entry.

There is a beautiful and encouraging thread that was started off in 2008 in the ThaiVisa.com forum that is titled Reflections On A Simple Isan Girl.

I wonder on my integration into my wife’s village, if ever she and I and her two sons finally do go there to spend the bulk of my Retirement years. I’m probably fortunate in that she enjoys drinking with her friends, for life could be darn bleak with nothing like that to liven things up from time to time. After all, as much as I long to experience again the village scene at her village that is reasonably similar to the villages scenes described and illustrated here, I am quite sure that I could not spend unbroken and unvarying days living this lifestyle.

Still, I would gladly have that than the miserable working life I’m currently locked into here in Canada in what should be the start of my Retirement years!
