Isaan Girl’s Dream Man

I believe I had seen the results of the poll spoken of in the original very short article in The Nation, but I had never seen it dissected quite so entertainingly.
And no, I am neither British nor American.
The Thorn Tree travel forum has a thread from last November titled NY Times reports on foreign husbands in Isaan. Do read the original article, if you have not before seen it — the first post links to it. A disparaging poster in the forum — evidently female — get soundly and properly thrashed.
The Thai Visa Forum has a thread begun in April, 2010, titled Going Home. My 3 Year Stay Is Comming To An End. Why people stay in Thailand that ran for 10 pages. It did not deal specifically with Isaan girls — nor with Thai girls, either — but it included that conversation.
I want to impress on anyone new to Thailand who is considering finding an isaan lady that it is often better to spend considerable time in Thailand first, if possible. The same would be said for buying a home. You want to be certain that you want to be where it is that you end up. Buying a home — and maybe taking on a wife — and then later finding out that you can hardly bear life in the location you find yourself, is something that can be painfully difficult to amend. Put in the time first — be fully certain that you are where you want to remain, before committing.
If you are fortunate to be living in isaan, it should not be difficult to find an Isaan lady, if this is what you really want to do.
But if you are not able to be living in Thailand, then the odds are that you are likely considering personals sites. So…free ones, or those that require subscriptions and are hopefully moderated to some degree?
Paying a subscription is no guarantee that the lady you start corresponding with is going to be genuine. I certainly found that out the very painful way.
If you have to resort to either type of personals site, just keep your wits, and always have your guard up. There is a reason that so many forums and articles run on about how the young ladies in the Internet shops have strings of Farangs whom they are baiting. We Western males can be a gullible lot. And in that vein, check out this article titled A little manual for the handling of Isaan – Ladies.
If Thailand is new to you, and you are unable to go there and spend months at a stretch in the country to familiarize yourself with it, I sometimes wonder if it might be safer or surer to make a special trip such as is offered by the “introduction service” Isan Love. At the very least, it would get you to Thailand, and expose you to one of the bigger cities in Isaan. And get you introduced to some Isaan ladies.
But it is not inexpensive. I would not be able to afford it in my present circumstances.
