Clothing? My wife thinks I have no style, and is forthright about censoring something I might choose to wear if we are going out together to someplace special, such as a house-party at one of her friend’s places, or just a trip downtown to Vancouver. She prefers to select my shirts, for instance — and will even choose my pants and footwear.
I oblige her, as long as her choice is not too much against my definite sense of style.
So is there such a thing as Isaan clothes that are distinctive from Thai clothes? I personally rather doubt it. At any rate, it would be impossible for me to sit here and blog about Isaan clothes. And I really have no interest in seeking out and posting a bunch of photos of isaan people in what may be their native wear.
Consequently, that being so, I am simply going to provide some excerpts to other sites that may have published a comment of any degree about clothes or clothing in an Isaan context. You can decide if you want to read anything further there. Just be advised that you’re not going to learn a thing about traditional or modern Isaan garb.

In Thailand men wear sarongs – dresses, skirts, wraps, just like the women do. In the northeast and in the south especially. In the northeast they are Buddhist. In the south – generally it’s the muslims that wear them. This sarong is a northeastern Thai version that my wife’s mother in law gave me to wear around the house.
These are cool and airy… without the skivvies. It’s quite nice actually.
Popular in Isaan – (Isan, Isarn, esarn) – Thailand’s northeast provinces.
