Wikipedia has a good entry on Nong Khai Province that anyone lacking familiarity with Nong Khai should refer to. Wikitravel has an entry for the City of Nong Khai. Wikipedia‘s entry for the city is much briefer. I was checking out the Hotel Pantawee webcam, but it was not quite 6:30 a.m. New Year’s Day over there during this edit — not much to see that early in the morning, I reckon. And then it just seemed to fail — no image — just a blue screen.

The Mut Mee Guest House in Nong Khai City presents a very good impression of itself on its website. With my November 5 quadriceps tendon surgery leaving me housebound, and now suffering considerable crippling muscle pain in my calf and lower hamstrings these past few days as a result of unaccustomed stair-climbing I engaged in while clearing out my niece’s bedroom this past Monday (I had been using her room for my computer room, for she hasn’t visited since the Summer), I could imagine drinking far too much beer and soaking up far too much sunshine at a place like this, gazing out at the Mekong and the distant Laos territory. Lord knows, it would certainly beat just about the entirety of my current experience.
