Malaysia or Thailand ? and why? Cost matters by the way?
is it better to spend my vacation in Malaysia or Thailand?
Really depends on what you want to do with your holidays. Malaysia has a unique combination of cultures- Malay/Indonesian, Indian, Chinese, mix-cultures, native cultures and a whole lot more. The food options and such from the melding of these cultures is astounding. East Malaysia is also a really good place for eco-tourism.
On the other hand, if clubbing, partying with a tinge of culture is your thing, I would definitely go for Thailand. Northern Thailand, where the Isaan culture thrives, is more cultural and demure, while the Southern part is more known for its liberal ways, and is more tolerant or foreigners. The RM is slightly more expensive than THB, currency wise.
Although the tour package Isaan Rocket Festival in Thailand that is being described in great depth (if the link to it still works when you try it) was for five days in 2010, it may well be something the tour operators have decided to continue. At any rate, there is an enquiry feature whereby that question could be posed — say for 2012?
An account of a first-time visit to Nong Han – Udon Thani – Isaan/northeast Thailand in 2008 is rather quaint. Anyone who has never themselves visited Thailand should find it enjoyable. I would like to know what country the author is from, though.
A visitor to Khon Kaen – The Heart Of Isaan published his overview of the area on May 14, 2011. He didn’t seem to spend his time like I probably would, but your own interest may align more with his than mine anyway.
A far lengthier account is from an Aussie blogger who described all 19 days of his August, 2009, trip with a separate post for each — you can begin Day 1 at Eric’s Perspective, and continue through the ensuing days by selecting them from the index column at the right. In a postscript to his account of his holiday to visit his girlfriend and her family, he properly laments needing to go back to the blog to substitute names with fictitious ones, and to even remove certain photos, all because people involved were overly sensitive about the publication of these things. If you read this trip report, perhaps you’ll be interested in reactions to it at The Paknam Web Forums — “Eric” opened a thread about it that he called My Three weeks in Isaan — it has thus far spanned 10 pages.
Now I’m going to offer excerpts from some other sites that might possibly interest you — check any out that sound good to you.
