An account from December, 2004, mentions the Wolverine just incidentally:
I would have gone to the gogo, the Wolverine, had not everybody, without exception, told me it was a rip off and to avoid it like the plague. I was also told that this was the first gogo in Thailand established back when Udon T was a major US airbase during the VN war.
A poster earlier that same year mentioned it in the Thai Visa forum:
Believe it or not there is a a go go here, called the Wolverine. But don’t expect anything like Pattaya.
…I go to the Thia bars when I go, do enjoy showing the guys a bit of history in the only surviving go go from Vietnam in Udon.
And also on the Thai Visa forum, but from mid-2008:
…Udon does have an a-go-go – Wolverine -but a more depressing bar you would need to travel a long way to see.
On a blog, a commenter’s entry from February, 2008:
The go-go in the middle of the city is called Wolverine. Free entry, 250Bt beers. One dancer at a time. Watched four girls during my one beer. Three were ugly and chunky. One girl was okay and kinda slim, maybe 51 kgs. There were two other thai customers at 10pm on a friday night. My Thai friend and I left after one beer because he knew of another gogo. This place ranks with the worst gogo at Patpong. I will never return.
And this brief encapsulation from December, 2005:
UDON THANI: There is one Agogo bar in town, called “Wolverine”. When visited back in SEP 05, there were about 14 girls working. Under the “up-country” method, only one girl on stage at a time. She dances her session and then another takes over. Situated on Soi Aduladej, it is near the town centre. Vast and dark with a central stage, it looks like a converted cinema.
Two comments on the restricted section of the Udonmap forum posted on May, 2010:
- The Wolverine is abysmal. I refuse to go in there. I suppose Udon isn’t ready for people dancing with anything except their eyes and their hands.
- The Wolverine was at its best 20 years ago! the building there now was built over the original so it could stay open, used to be even more seedier with a very sticky carpet and dancers on a very small stage…..girls were all completely naked then which was usual, candle wax shows etc…….hmmm udon will never be the same….
Even a poster on The InternationalSexGuide Forum slags it:
Wolverine gogo is a dull rip off place/ Avoid at any cost.
A map (.pdf format) gives its location – it’s number 7, close to Fountain Circle, which is the middle of the three large central dots:
For an establishment with ties that go back to the Vietnam War era, I am more than a little surprised that so little is available concerning it. I was not able to locate even one photograph of the place.
