Ban Dung
This is by no means intended to be a definitive post about the town — it is just intended as a little fun. And for anyone who may or may not care, I have never visited the place, as far as I know. However, on my first visit to Udon Thani, I was driven to may places by one or the other of two Thai ladies who wanted me to enjoy my visit to Thailand as much as possible, and to this day I really have scant idea just where all they took me.
In doing a little research for this post, I came across the website for a rather appealing Farang pub that calls itself Eddie’s Sports Bar. I found a working webcam on the landing page, and folks were passing in and out, even though it was just after 8:00 a.m. when I tuned in to the site. I’ve tried quite a number of webcams based in Thailand, and have found few to be functioning. It may be a small thing, but it impressed me to find this working webcam in a bar in a relatively “background” location like Ban Dung.
But Ban Dung is growing, and doing so quickly. A good website for information about the place — remember, Ban Dung is both an amphoe or district, as well as a town — is BANDUNGLIFE. A statement there quite surprised me: The town of Ban Dung itself consists of 34 communities. I am not entirely clear if that is meant to indicate that the town of Ban Dung is comprised of 34 separate “mini-towns,” but if so, then that is some town!
Now I’m going to post some links — a total mish-mash, beleve me! — that make reference to Ban Dung. It might be entertaining, if not informative or helpful.
