Morlam songs are abundantly available as music videos, and a search of YouTube will turn up many. However, there are Websites that take much of the work out of searching for these videos. An example is dvbs.eu.org — if they were to be believed, they would have managed to amass over 46,000 Morlam videos (4,694 pages of them, at 10 per page). If this was actually true, there would have to be many duplications, as well as misidentifications. But it is not true — they are exaggerating. You will note that it is not possible to just choose a specific page — a visitor has to progress from one page to another, beginning at page 1. But it is possible to use the URL to jump to other pages, such as page 90. When I went there, I could see only one video in the 10 on offer that might even be Thai, let alone Morlam. And magically, the total number of available pages of Morlam videos claimed as being available (at the bottom of the page) has dropped to 4,493. Now let’s look at page 100. Again, possibly one video might be Thai. But if you press Next Page to proceed to page 101…well, there are no more videos being displayed. Suddenly, a collection amounting to 4,493 pages has reduced to a mere 100.
Another site claiming to host hundreds of Morlam — in this case Morlum — videos is NME.COM. I see a claim of “about 5,096″ videos on offer. If you use the term Morlam in a search, it will only turn up “about 632″ videos. Still plenty enough for anyone, I should think!
I always enjoy dropping in at Lao Music Paradise. Morlam is regularly featured.
I see that the blog site Lukthung & Morlam seems to have ceased being updated since May 23, 2011 — that was its last post (as of the date of my own post). That blog used to exist as Luktung & Morlam. Can it be that the author became so upset at having many of the YouTube videos that he had previously posted about disappear, that he became discouraged and quit making his excellent reviews?
