Until this very week, I had been blaming my wife’s two sons for the devastatingly slow working of my computer, but I now realize that they are likely blameless. There is only the one Shaw cable connection, and we all feed off it via a router — generally, three users at a time for hours. But I have been seeing that the slowdown sets in towards midday, whether or not the boys are home. What I now believe is going on is a deliberate throttling of service by Shaw. This household is deemed to be a heavy user, so this is how the bastards get back at us — until such day that they win their bid to institute user-based billing. Thus far, the regulating body in Canada has resisted their application, but political parties love generous cash disbursements. And few politicians spend hours and hours a day using the Web — they have no idea what it can mean to folks who depend upon it, working online for many hours a day. It certainly is not as if the Internet is making me rich — I have never received a payment for the ads my few sites carry, so the day has yet to come whereby I actually get a cheque from someone. My hours spent in the Web each day are rewarded solely by whatever I think it is that I have achieved that day.
Okay, end of soapbox outburst, inspired by such a slow-working computer connection that it seems nearly as if a crash is imminent.
I often post about Morlam and Luk Thung, so I trust you have not come to this post actually seeking to know what “Morlam Lao’ is — check out Wikipedia for that.
YouTube has untold numbers of music videos in this vein, but many other sites have collected numbers of them together to make searching them out a little easier. I will here suggest a few of those, although some of the videos on the sites will certainly miss the mark.
