Please refer to Wikipedia’s excellent article Music of Thailand for a general view of the music to be found in this wonderful nation.
I came across the Boonhugsa Isan jazz project just today:
“Boonhugsa” Isarn Jazz fusion Project is a music project based in Chiangmai, Thailand. The concept behind the project is to blend the traditional “Isarn” Music with Jazz and other forms of music. Established in 2007 by “Yodh” and new generation Isarn musicians, in 2009 Ralph Thomas (Band member of Sun Ra) joined the project and shared his experience with Yodh to made combination of free jazz and Isarn music. Based on unique melodic and rhythmic patterns of Isarn such as Serng and Phutai rhythm and jazz substance.
The site must be very new, for many of the links take a visitor to a page that is “Under construction,” or else they simply do not work. However, you can check out their ‘stylings’ in the video a little further down in this post. The example there suggests a fair bit of energy!
An entertaining site for music is Lao Music Paradise. As you should know, the Isaan region of Thailand has a powerful background with the nation of Laos historically, and the music reflects this fact.

Hello
Wonderfull informativ homepage.
My wife comes from Sekka and now lives in Germany.
She loves your website and is always happy about the music.
Good luck and many visitors.
Bernd and Kannatha of thailand-lfe.de
How very kind of you to say, Bernd!
I looked at your site, and was very surprised to see the same theme — I have not seen it in use by anyone but me before.
So your wife is from Nong Khai, an Amphoe just above Sakon Nakhon Province? This always interests me, finding out how far from their native Thailand our Thai ladies have gone to live.
I wish you and Kannatha the very best luck as well, and I appreciate so much that you took the bother to leave your comment.
