Anybody familiar with UdonMap is probably aware that there are a couple of “sister” counterparts called NongKhaiMap and KhonKaenMap designed to specialize in their respective areas, since UdonMap had grown so large and successful with its focus on just Udon Thani.
Unfortunately, when I go to NongKhaiMap and click on the link there labelled Maps (in the bar across the top of the page), it merely takes me to a section of the forum. Now, whether it is a peculiarity of the day in which I am making this post, or if it is due to some actual flaw, none of the threads bearing the word “map” in their title actually yield a map any longer — only html data. As well, a September 3, 2009, thread declaring a downloadable map only contains an expired weblink. It is almost as if this section of the NongKhaiMap forum has been abandoned. (Incidentally, the full or current forum can be accessed here.)
There is an “interactive” map available on the landing page of the NongKhaiMap website — one has to scroll down to the link that says Useful Information Click here. But despite what it is advertised as, it turns out to be a map of Udon Thani City.
To be frank, I had considerable trouble locating the correct link to a true Nong Khai map. Anyway, without further ado, you can locate that map by going here. Only the download link for Map Side 1 functions — Map Side 2 is not a link at all.
Perhaps none of this will be true when you check any of those links out. Who knows? Maybe all of them will be corrected…or alternatively, maybe even the link to Map Side 1 won’t even be functioning.
The official provincial website has a link for a satellite map that probably will be of little use to anyone who has no familiarity with Nong Khai. As usual, it is very easy to zoom in so deeply that one becomes almost hopelessly lost.
If you scroll down this page at Travelfish, you should find a map that you can switch from being a typical Google map into a satellite map, or even a “Hybrid” that combines the features of both.
Finally, MapOfThailand.org offers a provincial and a city map. You can view them at the following links without having to put up with them switching from one to the other (as they do at the original link): Nong Khai Province Tourist Map; Nong Khai City Map.
If the map links in this post all still function by the time you are reading this, then I would have to say that Nong Khai has been fairly well covered where maps are concerned. This post’s title was unquestionably broad, though — too broad to fully cover. I have posted about Udon Thani maps in earlier posts, and finding maps of Thailand is not all that difficult, either. So for now, I think I shall close the post with this potpourri of other websites variously related to the post title.
