There is now a blog detailing nothing but these very maps that may or may not be of use to you. I only have familiarity with Udon Thani, so that was the map I explored for my post. I must applaud the effort put into the website. However, I have to admit that I always struggle with Google maps, and tend to avoid them. Nor do I own or use a GPS unit, so this probably contributes to why I feel so awkward with Google and satellite-style maps. But if you are comfortable with them, then the site should make you quite happy.
I did appreciate how detailed Udon Thani City was.
You can find a limited number of similar maps at Isaan.com. I just don’t like the style.
The “interactive”-style isaan maps at You.travel also hold little appeal for me, but you might be happy with them — currently, on offer are maps for Nong Khai, Udon Thani, Sakon Nakhon, Loei, Nakhon Phanom, and Mukdahan.
A fairly nice sketch map of the entirety of Isaan can be found at Chiang-Mai.org. You can also choose to view it in quarters — this would truly facilitate any printing jobs someone might have in mind.
Another general isaan map of this type can be found at Go-Thailand.com — you can also choose to view a few select parts of Isaan by clicking on one of those areas listed in the column at the left on that page.
There are a few maps around that delineate and identify the various provinces that Isaan comprises — these can be handy to familiarize oneself with just what those provinces are. The Wikipedia article on Isan has one — scroll down towards the bottom of the article. Another is at the website of Ajarn Michael — in this case, showing the Thai names of the provinces, along with the English names. Note that as of the date of my post, both maps do not include the province of Bueng Kan. I am surprised about Wikipedia — oddly enough, it does mention the province (#20) in the column that accompanies the map. Perhaps they will have corrected the map omission by the time you are reading this post. Isaan-Sawadee.com correctly displays the new province (#2), showing that it was once the most eastern portion of Nong Khai.
Bueng Kan is also missing from the Isaan map at Idea4Thailand as of the date of my post, but as long as you are aware, it should not hamper your appreciation of the various provincial maps that you can view by clicking on the province names listed below that Isaan map. Each province map is in English and Thai.
An Isaan map at Frommer’s is less useful, although it does quickly identify where there are some airports.
A nice large Isaan map is available at Thailand-Ticket.de.
By the way, there is a fairly amusing thread at the Phuket Info forum begun on July 22, 2011, titled Where can I get road Map of isaan.
I think I’ve rambled on enough about maps for this post — I’m feeling a tad rough from an excess of some rum and beer last night, so I think a bit of a nap is in order. I do apologize if nothing here was of any value to you.
