Unfortunately, I do not tend to be a big nor adventuresome eater. Having a noticeably full stomach happens to make me distinctly uncomfortable. Gone are the days of young adulthood when I would only eat out at smorgasbords, and often have as many as three heaping plates of food that would leave me essentially bed-ridden afterwards. The analogy of a snake that had just swallowed down some huge prey would best describe the situation. Now I prefer to eat sparsely.
So I will leave it to others to preach or rave about food in Udon Thani.
There are websites that do just that, although the reviews can be dated and few — VirtualTourist is an example, as is Lonely Planet. TripAdvisor is more current. Other sites simply mention a few restaurants, such as does AirAsia, or HappyCow‘s mention of a few vegetarian establishments. Even the Bangkok Post mentions a very few.
The official Tourism Authority of Thailand website currently lists 10 places.
Other places simply advertise themselves: to wit, the Ruysuk Hotel, à L’Elephant Blanc Hotel, Chern Chim, Udon Thani Restaurant, The Irish Clock.

Round the corner of Harmony Bar direction Karin Hotel you can find a big Thai restaurant with live music, easy listening thai music.
This video was taken around 8pm and it was already a bit bussy. Usually such establishments are bussy later in the evening. The thai food was good and the atmosphere is relax. Significant is that there were a lot of girls as staff and guest. At that time there were no foreign (farang) guests.
Quality of recording is very poor.
