Common Isaan Food in Khorat:
Isaan food is a blend of spicy chilies and sour tamarind, ‘makok’ or red ant eggs. A multitude of other ingredients can be found, most of them either very spicy, sour or bitter.
Khorat’s small night market, along the Chomsurang Hotel end of Thanon Mahathai, is the best place for local Isaan food (Northeastern Thai food).

There are three illustrated blog posts from 2011 in the blog The Jetlagged Gourmet that nicely describe the blogger’s experiences with Isaan food in Bangkok. I point it out because he does what I am oddly unable to — write passionately about food. I have mentioned this before. I eat to live. Food is not a preoccupation for me, although nutrition is.
A September 22, 2010, post at the website Eating Thai Food gives a very good encapsulation or summary of just what more general Isaan food is.
Isaan restaurants are easily found all over Thailand. Some even have their own website, such as the Jane Isaan German/Thai Restaurant in the seaside resort of Khao Lak.
