Thailand’s Isaan
This is not going to be an essay on Isaan life, by any means. I would have to be living there to do justice to anything like that; and unfortunately, life in Isaan to me is still but a dream that has yet to come true.
Thanks to YouTube, anyone who wants a good look at the true Isaan need only search out the relevant videos. As I write this post, “Isaan” yields “about 5,550 results,” and “life in Isaan” yields “about 436 results.”
Generally, anyone seeking information on life in Isaan is doing so because he or she plans to visit the region, or maybe even live there. In these instances, it can be very helpful to visit various websites to see what actual “expats” have to say.
The Expat blog is a place where expats report on life experiences all over the World, and Life in Isaan is included.
Many expats in Isaan prefer to blog on their own, however. Examples are Life In Inspiring Isaan and Isaan Style!.
There are — as may be expected — expat bloggers who blog in languages other than English, such as Le blog de Patrick.
A less-expected blog is Kitiyas Thailand — Kitiya is actually a young Isaan woman living in Udon Thani who periodically posts of her experiences, and also about Isaan in general (Life in Isaan – Udon Thani).
As well, there are many general Thailand blogs written by expat bloggers who will post occasionally upon the Isaan Region.
And of course, there are the forums. Two I can think of straight off are UdonMap and UdonTalk — I’m afraid that Udon Thani City is the only Isaan city I have visited, so I tend to centre my attention on it.
