udon thani train schedule
Udonmap has a page for the Udon Thani Train Station.
SiamHotel.net has a section devoted to Udon Thani Trains (Railway) Schedule. What you will see is the schedule linking Bangkok and Udon Thani (“per one-way in Thai Baht“), but you can select other pairings for Udon farther down on the site. The site even offers an E-mail address for anyone seeking more information.
The State Railway of Thailand has its own Website — Udon Thani is listed on this schedule.
A similar time table is here.
A very much briefer schedule is here, but there’s no telling (well, by me, at least) how regularly it’s updated.
This railway search engine should prove helpful to gain a better understanding of times and fares. Elsewhere on the same site, some good information on train travel is offered.
The State Railway of Thailand Train Reservation Services — information you need to know concerning booking and reservations — can be found here.
Illustrations of the air-conditioned, Second Class, Express Diesal train running between Bangkok and Udon Thani:
This information is a bit dated, but it may offer some perspective:
Nong Khai is the terminus of the Northeastern railway line from Bangkok via Khon Kaen and Udon Thani. The trip takes 10-12 hours and a first class sleeper ticket from Bangkok to Nong Khai or vice versa is currently about 1200 baht, and a second class sleeper ticket is 748 baht ($21.43 USD as of Jan 2009). Sleepers often sell out at peak times so you may need to book in advance. To get to the conference venue, you can also take tuk-tuk which will cost approximately 60 Baht. [Taken from here.]
That same site lists the Thai Railway Ticket website for booking. When I went into it, the search engine was entirely in Thai. However, there is a language default feature offering TH (Thai) or EN (English, but somewhat obscured by a magnifying glass) at the top right of the page.
It also offered a link to this informative site detailing How to travel by train in Thailand . . .
The Thai Visa forum had some very helpful responses to this question posed back in 2008: Train To Udon Thani, Nong Khai Any good experiences?
The UdonTalk forum also has a good discussion going in answer to the March, 2010, query on Train Times + Cost From Udon Thani To Bangkok.
Brit John Brook gives a fair explanation of travel by train betwixt Bangkok and Udon Thani here (scroll a bit).
